Valentine’s Day

Ruby’s birthday and Valentine’s Day are approaching fast. Ruby has been known to stretch these events into extra days of special treatment. It could be a weekend, a week, or even a month, so I am under a lot of pressure right now. However, don’t worry too much about me, because my birthday is coming up in March, and I’ll be sure to get my fair share of extra attention. You see, in marriage you get lots of special treatment. See what the Bible says about the marriage relationship.

Ephesians 5:28-33

28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body. 31 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband. NASU

If you are not married, don’t miss the blessing this passage has for you. The marriage relationship is actually a symbol of the love that exists between Christ and the church. Christ cherishes and nourishes every one of us that believes in him. If you are considering marriage, your prospective spouse should demonstrate these godly qualities toward you while you are dating.

If you are married, realize that husband and wife are one entity. Marriage revolves around love and respect for each other; it involves sustaining and cherishing each other.

Husband, it makes no sense to be mean to your wife. Wife, it makes no sense to disrespect your husband. Let’s honor God by working hard to make our marriages a good representation of the love Christ has for his church.
